Nothing in the top 13 was on this chart seven days ago, which makes the entire upper half exactly one week old. Nine of these 20 albums have not been released yet - four arrive in August, three in September, two in October - and a good part of the rest is old enough to have grandchildren: a Sheffield record from 1987, an Icelandic one from 1993, three hours of ambient music finished in 1986. There is exactly one entry here that America has not touched at all, and it is sitting at 11. Let us count them down.

15 debuts, exactly one climber, and both of the records that have held number one this summer pushed down into the bottom half. Nine of these 20 albums are not out yet; the oldest of the rest was finished 40 years ago. America took 19 of the 20 positions and lost the twentieth to inner south Sydney. And the summit went to a darkwave duo from Northampton, Massachusetts, for a record that does not arrive until September. By Friday there will be new records to move these ones along.
