Bitchin Bajas
Bitchin Bajas began in 2010 as a solo outlet for Cooper Crain, guitarist and organist in the Chicago krautrock band Cave, and grew into a trio with synthesist Daniel Quinlivan and multi-instrumentalist Rob Frye, who brings flute, saxophone and bass clarinet to the group's banks of analog synthesizers. Their instrumental music runs on drone, repetition and slow harmonic drift, closer to a tape-loop system left running than to anything with verses in it. The catalog is large and arrived quickly: cassettes, splits and EPs alongside full-lengths including Bitchitronics, the double album Bajas Fresh, and the 2021 Sun Ra tribute Switched On Ra, most of it issued by Drag City. They have recorded with Natural Information Society and Bonnie "Prince" Billy, scored Olivia Wyatt's film Sailing a Sinking Sea, and released Inland See in 2025, written largely on the road and cut at Electrical Audio with no reverb added after the fact.
