Boy Harsher

Boy Harsher is the Northampton, Massachusetts duo of vocalist and lyricist Jae Matthews and producer Augustus Muller, who met at film school in Savannah, Georgia and arrived at music by way of cinema. The project began in 2013 as Matthews reading her own short stories over Muller's live scores; within a year the readings had turned into songs and the band had a name. Their sound runs on stripped drum machines, cold synth lines and Matthews' close, half-whispered delivery, and it produced an underground standard in "Pain," a track that outlived its own scene and found a second life in horror films. They run the label Nude Club, wrote and directed the 2022 short film The Runner along with its soundtrack, and are developing a feature, The Lonely Woman, with Chloë Sevigny, FKA twigs and Sturgill Simpson. GET MEAN, due September 2026, is their first full studio album in seven years, recorded across eight cities in the wake of the end of Matthews and Muller's romantic partnership.
