Week 25'26 · Jun 19 – Jun 25, 2026
For most of the spring, one record sat at the top of this chart and refused to move. This week it sits at 10, and the name above it belongs to a record that is not even out yet. Almost everything between them is new: eighteen arrivals that were not here seven days ago, one returning act, and a single survivor on its way down. A British doom legend back from a long silence. A German krautrock landmark pulled from a fan's tape. A Munich darkwave duo. A Brooklyn band in chainmail. Boards of Canada turning up twice, once as a remixer and once as the record sliding out of the top. The throne changed hands this week. Here is how.
This Week's Story
So the long run is over. Boards of Canada, who held this chart through the spring, slip to 10, and a record that will not arrive until August takes their place at the top. Underneath, almost nothing remains from a week ago: heavy music in five forms, a deep electronic undercurrent, a few folk and pop singers, and a geography that leaned American while Britain, Germany and Australia quietly took the corners it left open. A chart can change one record at a time, or it can change all at once. This week it chose all at once. We will see what is still standing in seven days.
