Oubliette

Oubliette is a California studio project built around two former members of American shoegaze outfits: Nick Bassett, the guitarist and primary songwriter of Whirr, and Brandon Setta, who co-wrote the records that made Nothing a genre reference point before leaving that band in early 2019. Bassett handles all the music and production; Setta writes the lyrics - the division of labor is clean, and the sound reflects it. Where their main projects built walls of guitar noise, Oubliette operates more quietly: reverb-heavy textures that sustain and dissolve rather than overwhelm, vocals set far enough back in the mix to read as texture rather than foreground. Seven songs, recorded between 2021 and 2022 and tracked by Bassett at his Candyland studio in Oakland, were compiled in June 2026 under the unassuming title "all songs."
