Green Carnation

Green Carnation are a progressive metal band from Kristiansand, Norway, founded in 1990 by Tchort (Terje Vik Schei), the original bassist of Emperor. Their defining moment arrived early: 2001's Light of Day, Day of Darkness, a single 60-minute composition recorded with thirty musicians and a children's choir, stands as one of the most audacious constructions in metal's history. A decade-long hiatus followed, broken by a quiet return in 2014 and a proper comeback album, Leaves of Yesteryear, in 2020. They are currently completing A Dark Poem, a three-part trilogy released across 2025 and 2026, drawing on Arthur Rimbaud's reading of Shakespeare's Ophelia and ranging from black metal heaviness to intimate ballads to a 16-minute orchestral finale.
