Odd Nosdam

Odd Nosdam - born David P. Madson in Cincinnati in 1976 - has spent over two decades building some of the stranger corners of abstract hip-hop, first as co-founder and art director of Anticon, then as the primary production force behind cLOUDDEAD, the experimental trio whose self-titled 2001 album helped invent what would later get called cloud rap, lo-fi hip-hop, and hauntology all at once. His sound starts with 70s dub and late-80s hip-hop production and runs everything through cassette hiss, tape noise, and gear old enough to have opinions of its own. Now based in Berkeley, California, his solo discography spans from the hand-traded beat tapes of 1999 to the scorched downtempo of his 2024 release False Hood, with remixes for artists including Boards of Canada, The Notwist, and Mike Patton's Peeping Tom filed between.
