Can art be a technology? And steel a romantic data medium? It is with the inconsistency of a consciously open sound field of experimentation that 30-year old Anthony Rother from Offenbach, Germany, sends his newest project straight out of PSI-studio on an exciting journey. After a successful year for Rother’s new label Datapunk, when it was listed as number one in Raveline LP charts and ranked on 3rd place in GROOVE charts, “Art Is A Technology” shows a to this point mostly unknown side of pioneer Anthony Rother. With an obvious passion for synthesized soundscapes similar to John Carpenter, the 13 parts of “Art Is A Technology” are not only cinema for your mind but create minimalist atmospheres and open up an absolutely new field of action with clearly reduced and structured sequencer lines. ““Art Is A Technology“ was created in my studio as some kind of a live jam and it is the debut of my new label Stahl. It indicates where Stahl’s journey is supposed to head - minimalism, presented in a harshness that still contains the romance of a master in electronics.” (A. Rother) Stahl will release on an irregular basis more electronic sound experiments from Anthony Rother on CD and on a limited edition of 500 numbered vinyls. But Stahl is also a platform for fellow producers who want to move on with electronic music without bothering about functionalism and dance floors. And who would thus finally build a bridge out of metal and reflections. The artwork for Stahl was done by 31-year old artist and designer Rafael Jimenez Heckmann from Offenbach, Germany. He’s been working for ten years with his graphic arts label Fuku.Org for many music labels (e.g. Datapunk, Harthouse, Infracom, Logic, Psi49Net) and as a videogames designer. The synthetic artwork of the cover design unites with the sound experiments to an audiovisual piece of art - a synergy of the search for a new musical and designer horizon. Es ist die Widersprüchlichkeit eines bewusst offen gehaltenen klanglichen Experimentierfeldes, mit dem der knapp 30jährige Offenbacher Anthony Rother sein neuestes Baby direkt aus seinem PSI-Studio auf die Reise schickt. Nach einem mit Rothers neuem Label Datapunk extrem erfolgreichen Jahr 2004 (u.a. Platz Eins in der Raveline-LP-Jahrescharts sowie Platz Drei der Groove-Jahrescharts für Rothers "Popkiller") beleuchtet »Art Is A Technology« eine gänzlich andere Seite des Elektro-Botschafters. Mit einer unverkennbaren Begeisterung für die synthetisierten Soundscapes eines John Carpenter bedienen die 13 Parts von »Art Is A Technology« nicht nur das Kopfkino, sondern eröffnen mit ihrer Reduktion auf klar strukturierte Sequencerlinien und sparsame Atmosphären ein absolut neuartiges musikalisches Handlungsfeld. Stahl versteht sich aber nicht zuletzt auch als Plattform für befreundete Produzenten, die jenseits des Funktionalismus und des Beats der Tanzfläche elektronische Musik weiterbringen wollen. Und damit letztlich eine Brücke bauen aus Metall und Gedanken. Das Artwork für die Stahl-Veröffentlichung wird exklusiv von dem 31jährigen Offenbacher Künstler und Designer Rafael Jimenez Heckmann gestaltet. Seit ca. 10 Jahren arbeitet er mit seinem Grafiklabel Fuku.Org als digitaler Bildkünstler für zahlreiche Musiklabels (z.B. Datapunk, Harthouse, Infracom, Logic, Psi49Net) und Videogames. Die synthetischen Bildräume des Coverdesigns führen die Klangforschungen zu einem audiovisuellen Gesamtkunstwerk zusammen, eine Synergie der Suche nach neuen musikalischen und gestalterischen Horizonten.
