For the latest chapter of their sonic manifesto, Yoo Doo Right (Montréal, QC) engage with deep sonic exploration, purposeful looping motifs, and dynamic walls of sound, reigniting their unwavering connection to experimental music. In turn, tracks from Build and Rest by the Shepherd’s Light range from loud, amplified forreys into post-rock and krautrock, all the way to highly-tempered, effects-laden pieces akin to ambient, noise, and drone. Straying away from pragmatic boundaries, this offering opts for a rather symbolic approach to creation, the different pieces free to unfold in a myriad of ways upon listening. From the creators’ point of view, Build and Rest by the Shepherd’s Light chronicles the hardships of artistic resolve, acknowledging the daily grind required to keep the momentum going, all the while embracing the shared joy that permeated the creation process. There is an underlying tribute to the communities that foster art, the title “Industriestraße 9” paying homage to a defunct squat in Luzerne, CH where Yoo Doo Right used to play. Symbolism seeps through song titles such as “Tortue”, “Sofort, Si fort”, or “To Be a Lambskin (Or to Be the Whole Flock)”, offering enigmatic glimpses into their creative vision. Additionally, the track "Neighbours Report Their Neighbours" features a deeply evocative spoken-word poem delivered by co-producer Ky Brooks. After joining John Talbot (drums, percussion) and Justin Cober (guitars, bass VI, lap steel, synthesizers, piano, tape recordings, voice) on tour, Timothy Aaron Bryan was invited to record the bass on “Doldrums, Doldrums, Eviler Than the Devil”, a track that has already become a staple of the band’s live performances. The long-player also features guest musicians Jessica Moss on violin and Francis Leduc-Bélanger on trumpet and flugelhorn. Build and Rest by the Shepherd’s Light was recorded by—aforementioned dear friend and longtime collaborator—Ky Brooks at Hotel2Tango (GY!BE, Wolf Parade, Do Make Say Think) and Error 403 in Montréal (QC), mixed by Seth Manchester at Machine with Magnets (Battles, Lightning Bolt, Deer Tick) in Pawtucket (RI), and mastered by Amar Lal at Macro Sound (Pile, Hannah Frances, Titus Andronicus) in Oakland (CA). Its cover art shows a photograph taken in Ovronnaz, CH by Julia Bender. Yoo Doo Right’s fourth full-length is scheduled for release on November 6th, 2026 via Mothland.
