War From A Harlots Mouth

War From A Harlots Mouth formed in Berlin in late 2005, when guitarist Simon Hawemann, drummer Paul Seidel and vocalist Steffen Winopal cut a debut EP, Falling Upstairs, in a run of just fifty cassette tapes. A second guitarist and a bassist joined so the band could play live, and this five-piece released Transmetropolitan in 2007, an album sharp enough to draw comparisons across the mathcore and deathcore scenes at once. Winopal left soon after, and former The Ocean frontman Nico Webers took over vocals for In Shoals, MMX and Voyeur, three records that pushed the band's dissonant, time-signature-scrambling metal toward denser and more theatrical territory, including a guest string arrangement on their final release. They played more than four hundred shows across Europe and North America before announcing an indefinite hiatus in 2013, closing the chapter with one last performance in the city where it began. Even their name carries an argument: the lie is the war that comes from the mouth, and the harlot is the one telling it, a phrase deliberately spelled without an apostrophe because the band preferred how it looked without one.
