The Slambovian Circus of Dreams
The Slambovian Circus of Dreams (also billed as The Grand Slambovians, or Gandalf Murphy and the Slambovian Circus of Dreams) formed in 1998 in Sleepy Hollow, New York, when singer-songwriter Joziah Longo and multi-instrumentalist Tink Lloyd walked away from the major-label grind of their prog band The Ancestors and started over in the Hudson Valley woods behind a graveyard. Their sound - folk rock and Americana with a heavy streak of psychedelia - has earned the nickname "Hillbilly Pink Floyd," built from Longo's guitar and harmonica, Lloyd's accordion, cello, flute, and theremin, and Sharkey McEwen's mandolin work. The band made its name on stage rather than on radio, drawing a devotion fierce enough that some fans drive hundreds of miles to reach the costumed Halloween balls and annual Christmas shows. Since a 2008 debut at England's Rhythm Festival they have become a fixture of the UK festival circuit, and their catalog runs from 1999's "A Good Thief Tips His Hat" to 2022's "A Very Unusual Head," with a seventh studio album due in late 2026.
