System 7
System 7 is the London duo of Steve Hillage and Miquette Giraudy, formed in 1989 after the pair spent the late 1980s drifting through the city's acid house clubs, having long since left behind the Canterbury prog band Gong. Their first single "Sunburst" arrived in 1990, cut with Alex Paterson of the Orb and Youth; the 1993 album 777 became a defining record of its era. The sound lives at the junction where techno, ambient, progressive and trance briefly agree on something, held in place by Hillage's electric guitar — a rare instrument in the genre and the duo's signature. A chill-out sister project called Mirror System runs alongside it. Past collaborators read like a roll call of dance music's architects: Derrick May, Carl Craig, Laurent Garnier, Paul Oakenfold, Jam El Mar, Josh Wink. In 2026 they released Flower of Life, their first studio album in eleven years.
