ILLUMINATION I Composed by Robert Rich for the installation by Michael Somoroff This CD was published as a companion piece to Michael Somoroff’s installation Illumination I originally created for famed The Rothko Chapel, on the occasion of its move to The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum in Ridgefield, Ct. and the associated video installation at BravinLee Programs in Chelsea, N.Y.C. during the summer of 2007. As a well-known composer, Robert Rich has more than 30 CD’s to his credit. His bestselling CDs, Rainforest (1989) and Gaudí (1991) and his groundbreaking collaborations with Steve Roach, Lustmord, Ian Boddy and others; and the 7 hour DVD Somnium, which distills his infamous all-night Sleep Concerts at Stanford University. His music is available in stores, outlets worldwide and at RobertRich.com. Rich has composed music for film and TV, created sound installations and designed presets for commercial synthesizers. Michael Somoroff is a respected filmmaker and an internationally celebrated “new media” artist. His mediums of choice include, photography, installation, filmmaking, and writing. He is represented in many important collections, a sampling of which include the Museum of Modern Art; New York City (AICP), The Houston Museum of Fine Art, Houston, Texas; and The Smithsonian, Washington, D.C. His work has been included in museum exhibitions around the world, including ICP – The International Center for Photography, New York City; The Los Angeles County Museum of Art; The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; The Museum of Contemporary Art of Chicago; The Frankfurt Kunstverein, Frankfurt, Germany. He has participated in gallery exhibitions around the globe including the major international art fairs.
