Kevin: 1)On July 10th, 2021, I woke up from a dream with a song in my head, and that became the first new song I “wrote” and recorded in 20 years. That is track one on this EP 2)The EP is called “Sum (of) Inspirations”, and that’s because as I was testing the waters of making this new music, I let myself be comfortable leaning into whatever felt right in the moment, and that led to listening back to most of these and hearing what is likely inspirations from things I have either long loved, or been recently listening to. This is pretty much exclusively in terms of delivery and cadence, not the writing, but there is probably some of that too. Some of those inspirations I hear are; Def Jef, Scholarwise, Mega Ran, Divine Styler, Ced Gee, Funkytown Pros, Queen Mother Rage, Chali 2na, Brother J, House of Pain (The Truth Crushed To Earth Shall Rise Again album!!!), Anti Pop Consortium, Slick Rick, DOOM, GZA, etc… 3)Most of these songs were conceived by a process of improvising to the beats, and then re-editing, tweaking, and some “writing”. Then, memorizing the full verses, and re-recording them for a final. 4)All the beats are previously released instrumentals from Odd Nosdam, spanning from 1998 to 2019, And, Serious Beats mixed and mastered it. 5)These songs were all conceived and originally recorded over 3-days in July (10th-12th), 2021. 6)I have a connection to these songs because they are my first ones after 20 years of not making music. I also feel like I’ve already notable improved in my process of making music since, but these still have merit, at least to me. 7)I decided to drop these before the end of the year, so I can start 2022 with all new projects.
