L'Avenue
L'Avenue is the synthwave project of British producer and graphic designer Jesse Reuben Wilson, launched in 2019 after a career spent in funk, house and remix work under names including Positive Flow, Ocean Sky and Ultravibe. The stated aim is to reimagine the perfect 80s aesthetic, and Wilson treats the visual half of that as seriously as the sonic one: he writes, performs, produces, mixes and masters each record, then designs the sleeve himself. The music runs warm rather than dystopian, built from vintage-sounding synths, chorused guitar and Alex Bone's saxophone, moving between the poolside drift of Azure and the neon-noir of Électrique. Wilson has remixed Kim Wilde, Boy George and Nik Kershaw, along with contemporary acts including The Midnight and Wolf Club. Albums such as Riviera, Rendezvous, Tokyo Nights and En Vogue are issued in limited vinyl, cassette and minidisc pressings that routinely sell out.
