猫 シ Corp.

Jornt Elzinga began recording drone and noise as a teenager in the Netherlands before settling, in 2013, on the persona that would define his career: a Google Translate accident he liked enough to keep, 猫 シ Corp. Within two years he had effectively invented mallsoft, folding elevator music, shopping-center ambience, and VHS static into a nostalgic reconstruction of a consumer utopia that never quite existed. Palm Mall and Hiraeth set the template; News at 11, built around the eerie calm of pre-9/11 weather broadcasts, pushed the idea toward something closer to a concept album than a mixtape. He has released more than seventy projects since, drifting gradually from vaporwave's kitsch toward a slower, more contemplative ambient sound, and continues to run Hiraeth Records, the label he founded to release work outside the sample-heavy tradition he helped popularize.
