Xiu Xiu
Xiu Xiu (pronounced "shoo-shoo") coalesced in San Jose in 2002 around singer-songwriter Jamie Stewart — the only member to appear on every record — whose lyrics have never flinched from suicide, war, and the kind of taboo experience most artists leave in their notebooks. The sound refuses to stay put: noise rock, modern classical, post-punk, and programmed percussion trade places across a catalog that now runs to more than fifty releases. Over two decades the band has reinterpreted Nina Simone, Mozart's Magic Flute, and the entire Twin Peaks soundtrack, and created museum installations for LACMA and the Venice Biennale. Stewart and Angela Seo currently anchor the lineup, with David Kendrick on drums.
