Whirr
Whirr is an American shoegaze band from Modesto, California, formed in 2010 out of a side project by guitarist Nick Bassett, then also of Deafheaven. Their sound buries melody under towering, reverb-soaked guitars and half-submerged vocals, the lineage of My Bloody Valentine and Slowdive pushed louder and heavier. Across releases like Pipe Dreams (2012), Sway (2014), and Raw Blue (2024), they helped anchor the 2010s American shoegaze revival, and a combative, take-no-prisoners online presence made them as notorious as their records were admired. After a decade away from the stage, the band returned in 2025 to sold-out rooms and a listenership that skews heavily toward a generation who found them long after the fact.
