WAX

WAX is the stripped-down techno alias of Berlin-based DJ and producer René Pawlowitz, born 1975 in East Germany and widely known under his primary moniker Shed. Where Shed roams across breakbeat, rave, and Detroit-textured electronics, WAX narrows its focus to a single, ruthless purpose: two-sided club tools, sequentially numbered and pressed to 12-inch vinyl, distributed through the legendary Hard Wax record shop. The releases are sparse by design — no tracklist embellishments, no artwork beyond a stamped label — letting the music hold all the weight. Pawlowitz started producing in the 1990s, relocated to Berlin in 2002, and earned Resident Advisor's album of the year for his 2008 Shed debut Shedding the Past; the WAX series has been running in parallel ever since, racking up ten releases and counting.
