Warrington-Runcorn New Town Development Plan
Gordon Chapman-Fox is the Lancashire-born electronic musician behind Warrington-Runcorn New Town Development Plan, a project that scores the rise and slow decay of England's northern New Towns through stark, cinematic synth instrumentals. Raised in 1970s Lancashire on Jean-Michel Jarre records and Star Wars re-enactments, he spent the better part of two decades releasing electronic music under other names before settling on this one in 2020. The sound is built from bristling arpeggios, chord swells you feel in the spine, and snapping delays that stand in for percussion, conjuring concrete shopping arcades and brutalist bus stations with equal measures of nostalgia and quiet anger. Across six albums for the Castles in Space label he has hit the UK charts, taken Electronic Sound's album of the year for 2023's "The Nation's Most Central Location," and drawn airplay from BBC Radio 6 alongside repeat bookings at End of the Road Festival.
