uyama hiroto
roph recordings is a Japanese independent label founded in 2013 by multi-instrumentalist and producer Uyama Hiroto alongside DJ and producer Segawa Tatsuya - both veterans of Nujabes' Hydeout Productions circle who shaped some of that label's most quietly influential work in the mid-2000s. The label carries that lineage forward without trading on it, releasing music that sits at the crossing of instrumental hip-hop, free jazz, and slow-moving melodic precision. Uyama Hiroto's output ranges from the kinetic, percussion-forward energy of "freeform jazz" (2016) to the soft ballad architecture of "Breath of Love" (2024), while Segawa Tatsuya brings a raw, surf-inflected rhythm sensibility to the catalogue. Vinyl matters here: roph releases are issued in limited physical editions, and the label ships worldwide from Japan.
