TYPHOON
Typhoon is an indie rock band from Portland, Oregon, built around singer-songwriter Kyle Morton and a roster that has swelled to as many as fourteen players at once. The sound is orchestral and cinematic, a wall of strings, horns, and stacked voices wrapped around songs that circle death, memory, and what is left once the body starts to fail. Morton has reason to dwell there: a childhood case of Lyme disease cost him most of his youth and eventually a kidney, and that history runs straight through the band's 2013 breakout, White Lighter. Across records like Hunger and Thirst, Offerings, and Underground Complex No. 1, Typhoon pairs raucous, air-moving crescendos with lyrics that are intimate, poetic, and frequently funny in their bleakness. In 2025 the band marked twenty years together with a pair of hometown shows.
