Twin Peaks
Twin Peaks formed in 2010 when a handful of Chicago high-schoolers - Cadien Lake James, Clay Frankel, Jack Dolan, Connor Brodner, and later Colin Croom - started making scrappy basement rock and playing house shows in the city's DIY scene. Their sound runs on the embers of '60s garage rock and the loud-and-fast energy of the 2010s garage punk revival, with debts to the Rolling Stones, the Kinks, and the Beatles worn openly rather than hidden. Across albums from 2014's Wild Onion to 2016's Down in Heaven and 2019's Lookout Low, the band traded some of its youthful ramshackle for horn arrangements, ferry-song melancholy, and tighter craft, without losing the live-wire camaraderie that made its concerts a draw. They have played Lollapalooza and Pitchfork and toured across North America and Europe, building a reputation as one of Chicago's most reliable rock acts. The name, fittingly, came before any of them had seen the television show it borrows from.
