Thea Gilmore

Thea Gilmore writes rock and folk songs built on Bob Dylan's economy and Joni Mitchell's candor, filtered through a voice critics have likened to Alison Moyet and Annie Lennox. She left school at sixteen for a work placement at Woodworm Studios, and has since released more than twenty albums under her own name, including the UK chart entries Avalanche and Regardless, largely through labels she ran herself. In 2021 she set the Gilmore catalogue aside to write and tour as Afterlight, then returned to her own name for a self-titled record written, played, and produced entirely by her alone. Her songs have appeared in films including Bait and Army of the Dead, and she has shared stages and studios with Bruce Springsteen, Billy Bragg, and Steve Earle. The 2025 collection These Quiet Friends reworks songs that have anchored her since childhood, sung in the same unmistakable rasp that has carried her career for nearly three decades.
