The Dear Hunter
The Dear Hunter is the project of Casey Crescenzo, a multi-instrumentalist and composer out of Providence, Rhode Island who started the band in 2005 as a side channel for songs that did not fit his then-primary outfit, The Receiving End of Sirens. What began as ten burned CDs passed among friends became one of progressive rock's most architecturally ambitious acts, built around a six-part narrative saga (the "Acts") tracing the life and death of a fictional character across the early twentieth century. The band's palette is deliberately wide: orchestral arrangements, post-hardcore aggression, cabaret swing, and electronic textures coexist across a catalog that includes the genre-spanning thirty-six-track *Color Spectrum* project, the standalone record *Migrant*, and a newer science-fiction concept cycle called *The Indigo Child*. Their latest album, *Sunya*, arrived in March 2026 as the second full-length entry in that cycle. Crescenzo writes, produces, and directs much of the visual material himself, a level of creative control that keeps the band's output tightly authored and resistant to easy categorization.
