t e l e p a t h テレパシー能力者 is the primary alias of Luke Laurila, an Ohio producer who spent the mid-2010s slowing 1980s and 1990s Japanese pop into something unrecognizable and, in doing so, gave a subgenre its name. His tracks run on phaser, heavy reverb and looped samples that ping-pong until the source melody dissolves into haze; the style became known as slushwave, and Laurila is widely credited as its originator. He co-founded Dream Catalogue, the first label built entirely around vaporwave, and his work with HKE as 2814 produced Birth of a New Day, one of the best-selling ambient records the genre has produced. Laurila keeps the project deliberately anonymous, arguing that art should stand without its maker attached; when he played 100% ElectroniCON in 2019, he did it in a costume that hid his face and body. After a decade of original synth work under other names, he returned to the classic slushwave sound in 2025 with Dawn Arrives, and has released steadily under the alias since.
