Sweeping Promises

Sweeping Promises are Lira Mondal and Caufield Schnug, a post-punk duo who met at Hendrix College in Arkansas and spent the better part of a decade as serial band-starters before crystallizing their sound in a disused concrete laboratory in Cambridge, Massachusetts in late 2019. Their debut, *Hunger for a Way Out*, recorded with a self-devised single-microphone technique and mixed in mono, became one of the breakout records of 2020's pandemic lockdown. Now based in Lawrence, Kansas — where they own a combination home and recording studio — the pair control every stage of their craft, from first note to final master, producing a sound that critics have compared to the operatic punk of X-Ray Spex alongside the campy precision of Blondie and Devo. Their third album, *You Say I Romanticize*, arrives on Sub Pop in August 2026.
