Sunn O))) (pronounced "sun") is an American drone metal duo formed in Seattle in 1998 by Stephen O'Malley and Greg Anderson, two guitarists whose shared obsession with amplifier mass and sustained low frequencies produced something that resists most genre categories. Their sound moves at the pace of geological time: heavily distorted guitars tuned to the floor, resonant feedback stretched into dense, fog-thick walls of sound, percussion largely absent. Live, the duo performs in robes beneath theatrical clouds of smoke at volumes that audiences feel before they hear. Their tenth album — a self-titled debut for Sub Pop released in April 2026 — marks three decades of refusing to hurry.
