Sophia
Sophia is the project of Robin Proper-Sheppard, a San Diego-born singer and guitarist who co-founded The God Machine before relocating to England and, after the sudden death of his bandmate Jimmy Fernandez, channeling his grief into something quieter and more exposed. The first album, *Fixed Water*, appeared in 1996 with the acoustic introspection that would define the project's early years; later records, including *People Are Like Seasons* and *Technology Won't Save Us*, stretched toward more electric terrain without losing the weight. Now Berlin-based and releasing on The Flower Shop Recordings, Sophia has sustained an intensely devoted following across three decades — a small audience, by Proper-Sheppard's own admission, and the only reason he keeps making records.
