Shearling

Shearling formed in Los Angeles in 2024, when guitarists Alex Kent and Sylvie Simmons walked out of the wreckage of their previous band, Sprain, carrying a pile of unfinished material and declining to put it down. Their 2025 debut, "Motherfucker, I am Both: 'Amen' and 'Hallelujah'...", is a single track running sixty-two minutes, spliced together from hundreds of hours of phone demos, improvisations, live tapes, and studio sessions. The instrument list runs from hammered dulcimer and singing saw to homemade gamelan, taishogoto, and Mellotron, and the music shifts without warning between neoclassical arrangement, glitch electronics, and crushing noise rock. Kent's vocals move from spoken word to operatic croon to open howl, carrying a narrative split between Idaho and Eden. The lineup now includes drummer Andrew Chanover, bassist Wes Nelson, and multi-instrumentalist Elizabeth A. Carver, who joined ahead of a 2025 European tour and the 2026 EP "Don't Look at Me the Way a Dog Might Look at Your Leg."
