She Past Away

She Past Away is a Turkish dark wave duo built on the unusual proposition that nihilistic poetry sounds best in Turkish, sung over the cold reverb of a 1980s post-punk guitar. Formed in Bursa in 2006 by Volkan Caner and İdris Akbulut, the band settled into its lasting shape once Doruk Öztürkcan joined on electronic drums, later becoming a permanent member after Akbulut left in 2015. Their songs pair the signature guitar tone of the post-punk era with minimalist lyrics in their native tongue, a combination that carried them from regional curiosity to a fixture of the international goth circuit. The catalog runs from the 2012 debut Belirdi Gece through later records such as Disko Anksiyete and the recent Mizantrop, alongside a studio collaboration with French producer Perturbator. The group now operates out of Athens and tours steadily across Europe and North America, trading on the same gothic image and driving, hypnotic sound that defined it from the start.
