Röyksopp
Röyksopp is the shared brain of Svein Berge and Torbjørn Brundtland, two Norwegians who met as teenagers in Tromsø, bought a drum machine together during the Arctic techno boom of the early nineties, and have spent the decades since turning cold-climate melancholy into warm, precisely engineered electronic music. Their 2001 debut Melody A.M. sold over a million copies and landed three UK Top 40 singles; seven Spellemannprisen awards and two Grammy nominations followed. The duo's output spans ambient instrumentals, synth-pop built around guest vocalists like Robyn and Susanne Sundfør, and full-scale conceptual projects, most recently the Profound Mysteries trilogy released across 2022. They are based in Bergen, named after the Norwegian word for puffball mushroom, and show no signs of running out of spores.
