Portraits of Tracy is the project of Tracy Amare, a self-taught producer and multi-instrumentalist from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, who started releasing music online at 15, first drawing attention with elaborate beat remake videos of artists like Madlib and Steve Lacy. Her 2023 debut full-length, Drive Home, is an 18-track concept album that whips between classic rock, hip-hop, R&B, soul, and psychedelic indie - all written, produced, recorded, and performed by Amare alone, joined only by a cast of voice actors. The record follows a fictional character named Junie through an odyssey of identity and memory, structures that feel manic and meticulous at once. Now based in Los Angeles, Amare has built her audience largely through the sheer density of what she makes, the kind of artist whose discography rewards the listener who sits with it.
