portion control
Portion Control are a South London electronic group who have been making what they called "hard rhythmic electronics" since their first cassette release in 1980, when few people outside the industrial underground were listening and nobody had yet agreed on a genre name for what they were doing. They built their early sound from Roland analog synths and the Apple II-based Greengate DS3 sampler, a tool almost no one else was using that way. The band reached a dancefloor-oriented peak in the mid-eighties with 12" singles like "Raise the Pulse" and "Go-Talk" and a 1984 supporting slot on Depeche Mode's tour; Skinny Puppy, Front Line Assembly, Nine Inch Nails and Orbital have since cited them as a formative influence. After decades of total independence, they signed to Artoffact Records in late 2025.
