Payfone is Phil Passera and Jimmy Day, a London-born production duo who have spent over a decade refining a sound that sits at the intersection of electro-boogie, slow-motion disco, and Balearic warmth. Their 2013 debut single "International Smark" — released on Golf Channel Recordings and paired with footage Passera shot by chance of dancers on the New York L-train — became an underground classic almost before anyone knew who they were. Operating across studios in Barcelona and Brighton with a rotating cast of vocalists and instrumentalists, Payfone uses no samples; every element is built from scratch using live instrumentation, hardware synths, and a JUNO-60 that has earned co-authorship credit by sheer persistence. Their 2025 debut album *Lunch*, released on their own OTIS imprint, arrived after thirteen years of deliberately paced singles on Golf Channel, Leng, and Defected.
