Overmono
Brothers Tom and Ed Russell grew up in rural South Wales, the kind of place where you throw parties in pub backrooms because there is no alternative, and that particular strand of isolation shaped everything that followed. Each built a solo reputation first — Tom as Truss, crafting hard techno; Ed as Tessela, whose 2013 track "Hackney Parrot" helped reignite UK hardcore — before the two packed a car full of gear and rented a cottage in Wales with no agenda. What came out of that trip became Overmono. Their sound borrows from three decades of British rave history without being beholden to any single chapter: 2-step rhythms, broken beats, and melancholic vocal samples processed into something that feels both archival and genuinely new. Their 2021 single "So U Kno" won Track of the Year at Resident Advisor; their 2023 debut album Good Lies reached number 11 on the UK Albums Chart and earned unanimous critical acclaim, with Thom Yorke among those publicly moved enough to let them release edits on their own Poly Kicks label.
