Nurse With Wound

Nurse With Wound is the long-running project of British musician Steven Stapleton, founded in London in 1978 as a trio and reduced to Stapleton alone by 1981. The early records arrived quickly and were filed under industrial music despite the group's objections; Stapleton himself dates the real beginning to 1982's Homotopy to Marie. His method owes more to musique concrète than to any rock tradition - tape loops spliced with a collagist's patience and a surrealist's appetite for the absurd. Stapleton designs nearly every cover himself, usually signing the work as Babs Santini, treating the project as visual art as much as sound. More than four decades and some ninety releases later, the discography still refuses to settle into a single recognizable shape, which appears to be the entire point.
