Nu Genea
Nu Genea is the Naples-born duo of Massimo Di Lena and Lucio Aquilina, whose music treats the Gulf of Naples as both archive and compass — tracing the centuries of disco, funk, afrobeat, dub, and folk that have washed through the city and reassembling the pieces into something that feels simultaneously excavated and freshly minted. Their 2018 LP Nuova Napoli, sung entirely in the Neapolitan dialect, ranked as one of Discogs' two best-selling vinyls globally the following year. Bar Mediterraneo (2022) widened the scope with multilingual Mediterranean collaborations; their 2026 record People of the Moon goes further still, moving through Arabic, Spanish, Portuguese, and Neapolitan with contributors including Tom Misch and María José Llergo. Alongside their own releases, the duo runs NG Records and curates the Napoli Segreta series, rescuing forgotten Neapolitan recordings from the 1970s and 80s back into circulation.
