Monolord

Monolord is a Swedish doom metal trio from Gothenburg, formed in 2013 by guitarist/vocalist Thomas V Jäger, drummer Esben Willems, and bassist Mika Häkki - a lineup that has never changed. Their sound runs on slow, crushing riffs, droning repetition, and Jäger's melodic, almost spectral vocals, drawing clear lines back to Sleep and Electric Wizard while carving out something distinctly their own. Debut album Empress Rising (2014) earned immediate critical attention, and the band has built one of the most devoted followings in heavy music through consistent, unhurried output across six studio albums. Their 2026 record Neverending, produced by Sylvia Massy (Tool, System of a Down), marks a shift toward more personal lyrics and a sharper, more concentrated sound - thirteen years of accumulated heaviness distilled into eight tracks.
