Meryl Streek
Meryl Streek is a Dublin-born, self-described "angry, one-man punk band" whose music blends spoken word delivery with experimental electronics, news sample collages, and abrasive guitar - a sound critics have tagged avant-garde punk, though Streek insists the label is simply punk. After 15 years drumming for other bands and a seven-year stint in Canada, he returned to Ireland, taught himself Ableton, and in 2022 released his debut album 796 - named after the number of infants whose remains were found at a Catholic mother-and-baby home in Tuam - which was called "the most incendiary and important punk rock album of the year" by Louder. His 2024 follow-up, Songs For The Deceased, was recorded at Dublin's Darklands Audio with producer Dan Doherty (Fontaines D.C.) and featured collaborations with Steve Ignorant of Crass, among others; a third album, Stories They Don't Teach You At School, is forthcoming on Venn Records.
