mclusky
mclusky formed in Cardiff in the late 1990s, spent their first run being critically adored and commercially sidelined, and broke up in 2005 without quite getting their due. The Welsh trio - Andrew Falkous on guitar and vocals, Jack Egglestone on drums, and Damien Sayell on bass - traffic in post-hardcore that feels perpetually on the verge of flying apart, held together by Falkous's sardonic, often absurdist lyrics and riffs angular enough to leave marks. Their 2002 album "Mclusky Do Dallas," recorded by Steve Albini, is the sort of record that gets called a classic only after the band no longer exists to enjoy it; Pitchfork ranked it among the best albums of the decade. They reconvened, eventually dropped the asterisk that had tentatively qualified their reunion, and returned in 2025 with their first new studio album in twenty years via Ipecac Recordings.
