78’s On the 26th June 2019 Martin and his rockbilly pals Jose Guillan (Lead Guitar) and John Caverner (Double Bass) got together to record some very rare 78’ pressings Sound technician Lorna Fullerton provided her office in the arts centre on High Bridge Street along with her 1930’s laithe used for cutting the wax The event was documented with photographs and also digital wav recordings The original 78’s wax discs were sold privately but the WAV recordings made at the same time remained in Martin’s custody and publishing camp Here they are for the fist time made available as downloads from Bandcamp They are super rare and will only be available for a limited amount of time Background on the players... Jose Guillan and his oldest friend John Caverner have been at the top end of the Rockin scene since the age of 17, both North Shields boys they excelled on their instruments from an early age touring the world and also getting to play with most of their heroes from the 1950’s They are what I would call ‘Doctors of Rockabilly’ complete masters in the vintage form (circa 55-59) They know and can play most A & B sides released in that era, both hits and misses… it is staggering the knowledge and enthusiasm these boys possess Very high level players I have known and played with Joe & Johnny for many a year and consider them very close friends It is a joy to give you good folks a glimpse of their breathtaking talent Enjoy Martin G Stephenson xx Note: These songs were recorded on vintage 1930's equipment so remember when you listen to it, it is totally authentic of the era, so listen a little closer, headphones could be a good idea, the music won't be as loud as modern stereo recordings, but instead having the warmth, intimacy and character of the 1930's Very rare and beautiful, particularly the song Martin wrote age 14 for the elder brother of his friend who committed suicide (Joe McCue) or the beautiful song he wrote for his darling mother Frances Anne Stephenson (Through The Mist...
