King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard formed in Melbourne in 2010 and have since turned restlessness into a method, releasing more than two dozen studio albums while refusing to record the same one twice. The six-piece - Stu Mackenzie, Ambrose Kenny-Smith, Cook Craig, Joey Walker, Lucas Harwood and Michael Cavanagh - started in garage and surf rock before detouring through microtonal tunings, krautrock motorik, thrash metal, jazz fusion and synth-pop, sometimes inside a single record. Nonagon Infinity, an album engineered to loop endlessly with no fixed beginning or end, won the 2016 ARIA Award for Best Hard Rock or Heavy Metal Album, and in 2017 the band gave away Polygondwanaland for free, releasing the master files so anyone could press their own vinyl. Their live shows run long, often improvised on the spot, and have built them a devoted following that treats each new release as a fresh puzzle to solve.
