Kavinsky

Kavinsky was the stage name of Vincent Belorgey, a French producer who built an entire career out of a single fiction: a man who died in a Ferrari Testarossa in 1986 and came back twenty years later as a zombie with a synthesizer. The music matched the premise, all vocoders and analog arpeggios lifted from the film scores he grew up watching. His 2010 single "Nightcall," produced with Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and sung by Lovefoxxx, opened the film Drive and became the reference point for the generation of synthwave producers who arrived after him. Two albums followed, OutRun in 2013 and Reborn in 2022, the first reaching number two in France and charting in the US. In 2024 he performed "Nightcall" with Phoenix and Angèle at the closing ceremony of the Paris Olympics, sending a new version of the song to number three in France and a diamond certification. He died at his Paris home in July 2026, aged 50.
