John Dwyer

John Dwyer is a Los Angeles-based multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, and record label operator who has been one of the more restless forces in American underground rock since the late 1990s. He is best known as the founder and primary songwriter of Osees — a band that has shed and acquired names (OCS, Thee Oh Sees, Oh Sees) nearly as frequently as it has released albums, currently standing at 28 studio records. His sound cuts across garage rock, noise, krautrock, and psychedelia, loud enough live that Dwyer has spoken candidly about the tinnitus it left behind. Beyond Osees, he runs Castle Face Records, the California imprint that also launched Ty Segall and King Gizzard, and cycles through a constellation of side projects, the most recent of which is Heathen Axe — a deliberately raw, six-track solo EP tracked on a Vestax cassette four-track with everything turned all the way up.
