JIM

JIM is the recording name of Jim Baron, who spent close to three decades as co-founder of the disco-house group Crazy P and producer of club records under the name Ron Basejam. Under this newer alias he sets the drum machines aside for acoustic guitar and piano, a shift he credits to a lockdown spent studying folk guitarists like Nick Drake and Terry Callier. His debut album, "Love Makes Magic," appeared in 2023 on Bella Union, built on close-harmony vocals and confessional songwriting rather than dancefloor urgency; a second album, "The Curious Case of Existence," arrives in September 2026 on Vicious Charm and features a guest vocal from Edie Baron alongside Sleaford Mods frontman Jason Williamson. The songs lean as much on the folk-rock harmonies of Crosby, Stills and Nash as on the sun-warmed soul of Ned Doheny, filtered through the instincts of someone who has spent a career making people move.
