Jess Williamson

Jess Williamson grew up in the suburbs of Dallas and began writing songs as a student at the University of Texas at Austin, self-releasing her earliest records on her own imprint, Brutal Honest. Her move to Los Angeles in 2016 reoriented the work: Cosmic Wink and Sorceress traded the banjo sparseness of her Austin years for dusty 1970s cinema, 1990s country radio, and a West Coast psychedelic streak. The constant is her voice, which can fill a hall and still sound like it is coming from the next seat over. In 2022 she formed Plains with Katie Crutchfield of Waxahatchee, and the following year released Time Ain't Accidental, a record of highway distance and physical appetite that read as a reckoning after a long breakup. A new album produced by Shooter Jennings, A Mile South of Heaven, arrives October 9, 2026.
