Jack White
Jack White built one of rock's most recognizable careers out of rules he invented himself. The White Stripes, the Detroit duo he co-founded with Meg White in 1997, kept it strict - only three colors on stage, only two people, and a debt to the Delta blues that felt less like homage and more like archaeology. The band won a Grammy for Elephant in 2003, ranked among the decade's biggest acts, and dissolved in 2011. Since then, White has split his time between The Raconteurs, The Dead Weather, and a solo catalog that has swung from blues-soaked minimalism to outright experimental noise, all of it tracked to tape rather than hard drives. Rolling Stone placed him 17th on its 100 Greatest Guitarists list.
