Horse Jumper of Love
Horse Jumper of Love formed in a Boston basement in 2013, when guitarist and singer Dimitri Giannopoulos was nineteen and recording songs he assumed no one would hear. The band's 2016 self-titled debut, an unpolished slowcore record built from aching guitar tones and unhurried tempos, found an audience anyway; a decade later it is regarded as one of the records that pulled slowcore and shoegaze back into the center of American indie rock. Giannopoulos writes and illustrates the band's cover art himself, and his hand-drawn sleeves are as recognizable as the songs' slow, gravitational pull. Rounded out by bassist John Margaris and drummer Jamie Vadala-Doran, the trio has released a string of albums since, including So Divine, Natural Part, Heartbreak Rules, and 2024's Disaster Trick, each trading a little more hush for volume without losing the plainspoken, confessional core that made the first record a cult favorite. Horse Jumper of Love has toured with Duster and DIIV, and its songs have become a reference point for a younger generation of shoegaze-leaning bands.
