Hermanos Gutiérrez
Hermanos Gutiérrez are brothers Alejandro and Estevan Gutiérrez, Ecuadorian-Swiss musicians who started playing together out of a Zürich apartment in 2015 and built their sound from the interplay of two guitars - one classical, one lap steel - with no vocals, no band, and no fixed address in any one tradition. Raised between Switzerland and Ecuador, their early records pulled from the Latin American music of the 1950s; a 2020 road trip through Mexico and the American Southwest bent their fourth album, Hijos del Sol, toward desert Westerns and Morricone. Their 2022 album El Bueno y el Malo, recorded in Nashville with Black Keys producer Dan Auerbach, brought them to a wider audience without noticeably loosening their grip on what makes them distinctive: that particular mood of open-road melancholy, cinematic and unhurried.
